The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities

An Agreement for Scientific Cooperation was signed with the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy (BBAW) in 2000, under which the Academies held a series of bilateral workshops in the humanities on "Science and Peace - Science and War", which ended in 2013.

In December 2013, a second series of workshops, entitled "Update, Modernization and Rationalization Processes in Judaism, Christianity and Islam throughout the Periods," was launched. The first workshop was held in Berlin, and subsequent workshops have alternated between Israel and Germany.

The institutions jointly sponsored the initial publishing of a critical edition of all Martin Buber writings, which was later supported by the Israel Academy together with the Heinrich Heine Universität, Düsseldorf. The project is now completed, with all 22 volumes published in Germany.

In March 2022, Prof. Christoph Markschies, President of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, visited the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. He met with the Academy’s President Prof. David Harel and Vice President Prof. Margalit Finkelberg, and toured the exhibition “A Home for the Wise: Sixty Years of Science and Knowledge”, marking sixty years since the legislation of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities Law. The visit focused on continuing the long-standing cooperation between the two academies and strengthening scientific ties between Israel and Germany.

In November 2023, during Berlin Science Week, Prof. Nili Cohen, former president of the Israel Academy, participated in a joint conference of the Israel Academy and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences in Germany on "POWER AND PIETY: RELIGION, POLITICS AND THE UNIVERSITY".
