About the Committee

Welcome to the website of the Bioethics Advisory Committee of The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities.

The Bioethics Advisory Committee is charged with reporting to and advising The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities on bioethics activity in Israel and worldwide, and with disseminating information on bioethical issues to the general public.

The Israel Academy first established its Bioethics Advisory Committee in 1996. The committee functioned in its earlier constellation until 2010 and was reconstituted in 2017.

The Bioethics Advisory Committee is charged with:

 

  • Reporting to The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities on bioethics activity in Israel and abroad;
  • Advising the Israel Academy on the ethical, legal, and social concerns associated with biological research;
  • Recommending to the Israel Academy ways and means of disseminating information on bioethical concerns to the general public in Israel;
  • Recommending to the Israel Academy means and courses of action for impressing these ethical, legal, and social concerns upon Israel society.
