Environmental Research

Environmental Research
Its findings and recommendations, published in 1998, indicated that the environmental sciences in Israel were, on the whole, in a state of “lingering decay".To reverse the trend, the panel urged Israel to fund more interdisciplinary environmental research and to proactively create a cadre of top-level environmental scientists trained at world-class institutions abroad. The Planning and Budgeting Committee (PBC) of the Israel Council for Higher Education, working together with the Academy-initiated FIRST program, has already begun funding the training of such postdoctoral fellows.

The Israel Academy has also continued its efforts to foster the documentation and collection of specimens of all the known species of fauna and flora in Israel. The Publications Department has issued numerous highly detailed, illustrated volumes in its Fauna Palaestina series, and it is in the process of reissuing and expanding its prestigious Flora Palaestina.
