A joint multidisciplinary conference of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei was held in Rome on January 15–16, 2019, on the subject of Science and Society.

 

Prof. Nili Cohen, President of the Israel Academy, and Prof. Alberto Quadrio Curzio, former President of the Accademia dei Lincei, headed the conference. Italy’s Foreign Minister, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, and Israel's Ambassador to Italy, Mr. Ofer Sachs, delivered greetings.

 

The conference sessions, attended by members of both academies, focused on medicine and pharmacology, history and archeology, and economics and technology. The Israeli delegation comprised Prof. Yoav Benjamini, Prof. Haim Cedar, Prof. Nili Cohen, Prof. Roni Ellenblum, Prof. Israel Finkelstein, Prof. Elhanan Helfman, Prof. Benjamin Isaac, Prof. Francesca Levy-Schaffer, Prof. Shimon Ullman, Prof. Yosef Yarden and Ms. Galia Finzi, Director of the Israel Academy. Around a dozen members of the Italian Academy participated.

 

This is the second joint conference of the two academies in the framework of the agreement signed between them in 2001. The first, on pharmacology, took place in Jerusalem in 2017.
