On November 6, 2022, the President of The Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, Prof. David Harel, visited the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History, where he was hosted by Prof. Tamar Dayan, Chair of the museum, and Alon Sapan, Director of the museum.
The visit, guided by Prof. Dayan, included a tour of the museum’s various galleries, a visit to its natural science collections, and meetings with the collections’ directors and the scientists engaged in their preservation and study. Prof. Harel was also shown the applied policy-relevant research centers, which conduct ecological surveys. The centers work within the museum’s framework and are run jointly with the relevant national authorities.
This comprehensive visit to the museum presented a broad picture of its diverse activities, which are devoted to the study and preservation of Israel’s natural environment and to making this field accessible to the general public.
