On December 6, 2021, the German Ambassador, H.E. Dr. Susanna Wasum-Rainer and Head of Science and Environment at the German Embassy, Dr. Barbara Steimetz visited the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities to meet with Academy President Prof. David Harel. Academy member Prof. Itamar Willner, former Chair of the Sciences Division of the Israel Academy and a member of the German National Academy – Leopoldina also took part in the meeting.

 

Ambassador Wasum-Rainer and Prof. Harel discussed scientific collaboration between Germany and Israel, and the importance of fostering fact-based scientific debate and decision-making in society and politics. They expressed their ongoing support for strengthening ties between German and Israeli researchers.

 

The Ambassador was given a tour of the new Academy Exhibition: “A Gathering Place of Scholars: 60 Years of Science and Knowledge,” which marks the 60th anniversary of the enactment of the Israel Academy Law.
