Science without Borders | Collaboration of the French and Israeli Academies of Sciences

On November 26, 2018, the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, together with the French Academy of Science, hosted “Science without Borders,” a conference marking the 70th anniversary of the State of Israel.

Heading the conference were Prof. Nili Cohen, President of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, and Prof. Catherine Bréchignac, Secrétaire Perpetuel of the French Academy of Sciences. It was held in the presence of the President of Israel, Reuven (Ruvi) Rivlin, and the French Ambassador to Israel, H.E.M. Helene Le Gal, with the participation of Nobel laureates and Academy members from both countries.

The conference participants included, on the French side, French Academy members Prof. Claude Cohen-Tannoudji,1997 Nobel laureate in Physics; Prof. Odile Eisenstein, one of France’s leading chemists; physicist Prof. Thibault Damour; and bacteriologist Prof. Pascale Cossart. The Israeli participants included Israel Academy members Prof. Robert J. Aumann of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 2005 Nobel laureate in Economics; Prof. Avram Hershko of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, 2004 Nobel laureate in Chemistry; Prof. Ada Yonath of the Weizmann Institute of Science, 2009 Nobel laureate in Chemistry; Prof. Ruth Arnon, former President of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities; and Prof. Israel Finkelstein of Tel Aviv University.
 
The conference was part of the "France-Israel Season 2018,” which has featured a series of jointly sponsored events in the areas of art, culture, economics, education, research and science. The first event, a prestigious scientific conference, was held in Paris on June 18–19, 2018, with the participation of Nobel laureates, Fields Medalists and eminent scientists from both countries.
