The Arabic Translation of the Samaritan Pentateuch
Volume One: Genesis–Exodus
Series: Sources and Studies in Samaritan Literature
Edited from the manuscripts.
The Samaritan Arabic translation of the Torah has reached us in two principal types: The eleventh–twelfth century translation attributed to Abu ’l-Hasan as-Suri, and the revised version by Abu Sa‘id b. Abi el-Ḥusayn of the thirteenth century, known to the scholarly world since the seventeenth century but never hitherto published in full. Haseeb Shehadeh’s edition, which adduces both strata of the translation, is the first complete critical edition of the Arabic version of the Samaritan Pentateuch. It puts before the reader an unparalleled source for the linguistic tradition, exegesis, legal tradition and theology of the Samaritans.
