On Monday, June 3, 2024, the
Blavatnik Awards for Young Scientists in Israel Symposium was held at the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Jerusalem. The symposium was opened by Prof. Oded Rechavi, a member of the Israel Young Academy from the School of Neuroscience at Tel Aviv University, with a fascinating guest lecture titled "Molecular Memories".
The symposium was attended by the 2024 Blavatnik Award winners: Dr. Sraga Shwartz, winner of the Life Sciences award; Dr. Moran Shalev-Benami, winner of the Chemistry award; and Prof. Thomas Vidick, winner of the Physics and Engineering award. During the symposium, the three young researchers presented their groundbreaking work for which they were selected to receive the awards. Through their lectures, the audience was exposed to their research.
Among the participants in the symposium were also students from biology majors at Alqasemi High School in Baqa al-Gharbiyye and from the Davidson Institute of Science Education's excellence program in Rehovot. The presence of the students added great interest to the event, and the questions they raised during the discussion contributed to a deeper understanding of the importance of the presented research.
