On January 22nd the Academy held the Annual Adams Conference, with the participation of all the current Adams Fellows and several alumni.
The two main guest lecturers were:
Amedi, recognized as a Genius 100 Visionary, emphasized the importance of multi-disciplinary research to advance the understanding of the human brain.
Dr. Barak Hirshberg, Adams Alumnus and chemistry professor at Tel Aviv University, delivered a lecture on “
A Hitchhiker’s Guide to an Academic Career”. Hirshberg, who recently won the Rector’s Prize for Innovation and Creativity in Teaching gave the audience advice, practical tips and a lot of encouragement for the advancement of their academic careers.
In his opening remarks,
Academy Member Prof. Moshe Oren, Chair of the Adams Fellowships Committee, spoke about the heritage of Marcel Adams, the deceased founder of the program, and about the challenges the scientific community in Israel faces today.
At the conference each member of the new class of Adams Fellows presented their research of various fields, among them physics, biomedical engineering, molecular genetics and mathematics. The fellowships program, established in 2005, grants each fellow 100,000 NIS per year for up to four years, as well as a travel account of $3,000 per year for their participation in scientific conferences and workshops abroad, for scientific collaboration and to find a position for postdoctoral training.
