In early November 2025, a bi-national workshop was held in Berlin, initiated by the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with the
Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (GIF).
The workshop brought together leading researchers from Israel and Germany for an interdisciplinary discussion on the influence of artificial intelligence across time. Opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Christoph Markschies, President of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy, and Prof. David Harel, President of the Israel Academy.
The program included three sessions: “Past,” chaired by former President of the Israel Academy, Prof. Nili Cohen, explored AI’s contribution to historical research and digital humanities; “Present,” chaired by Prof. Klaus-Robert Müller, focused on current applications in science, medicine, and society; and “Future,” chaired by Prof. Harel, addressed regulatory challenges, creativity, and the boundaries of computational capability.
In the evening, a public panel was held with senior scholars including Prof. Harel, Prof. Cohen, and Israel Academy member Prof. Yadin Dudai, who discussed how artificial intelligence is reshaping the way we understand the past, act in the present, and think about the future. The panel took place as part of the Berlin Science Week events.
