Genetics is a branch of biology that studies the patterns and mechanisms of the transfer of attributes of living organisms from one generation to the next via heredity, and the variation of these inherited characteristics among similar or linked organisms, in relation to genes and genetic data. The field of genetics includes the following branches, among others: medical genetics, genomics, behavioral genetics, developmental genetics, genetic engineering, molecular genetics, and genetic epidemiology.
