Dr. Satheeswaran Thangaraj

Satheeswaran Thangaraj is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Incheon National University, South Korea. He received his Ph.D. in Aquatic Sciences from Tianjin University of Science and Technology under the supervision of Prof. Jun Sun.

Thangaraj’s research interests revolve around marine microbial genomics and their metabolic modifications under different environmental conditions, which influence wider biogeochemical processes in the ocean. He uses a combination of modern molecular biology and bioinformatics tools with field and laboratory-based measurements and experiments to understand how future ocean conditions (including ocean warming and acidification) could change the microbial ecosystem through their metabolic modifications, with subsequent alterations in the ocean chemistry.

For his postdoctoral training, Thangaraj will be joining Prof. Yeala Shaked’s research group at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem to broaden our understanding of how global climate change conditions may impact the biogeochemistry of the ocean trace metal (Fe) through the phytoplankton ecosystem.
